Know your ‘FATS’
The word ‘fat’ is something you often look down upon if you’re trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle, right? Since it is a widely heard topic that ‘fats are bad’, people often ignore that fat is a major source of energy in your body, and acts as a facilitator to absorb your vitamins.
While there are a few dietary fats that are perhaps, ‘unhealthy’ for you but the rest of them are incredibly nutritious for you as well. Let’s understand them!
Saturated Fats
These fats is a hot topic of debate at present, recent studies have shown that saturated fats are not the devil that we thought them to be, it all really depends on what type of food you’re opting. Even though there are some controversial viewpoints on this one, there are some food that contain saturated fat yet are healthy! Coconut oil, Ghee, MCT Oils, Uncooked butter are some of the foods that contain saturated fats but are incredibly healthy! Of course, avoid having animal sourced fats like bacon, lard, hotdogs and even Dalda ghee!
Trans Fat
Trans fats are a big NO for your health, it’s the worst type of fat for your body. Food items like sugary cereals, pastries, deep fried snacks, salty snacks, biscuits, ice creams contain huge amount of trans fat. That is why, these food items are considered as ‘junk foods’. Avoid them at all cost!
Polyunsaturated Fat
These include Omega 3 and Omega 6 fats that help to maintain your hormonal balance and build cell membranes. They are necessary for muscle functions and support nervous system, if eaten in a right amount. Since they are only needed in little amount, opt for flax seeds, clean salmons and nuts, but stay away from corn and soya oil!
Monounsaturated Fat
These types of fats are good for your heart, weight and are good for those having insulin sensitivity. They work wonders in boosting up energy level and help your body in fat storage too! Olive oil, avocado, cheddar cheese, goat cheese, lean meat, almonds are some of the healthiest foods to store monounsaturated fats!
